Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has been using the NASD Trace database. I am using it for part of my dissertation and would be interested to hear what others are doing.

I currently work with a subset from the Bloomberg index, as they are supposed to be the "actively traded" issues but would also like to create other subsets and groupings.

Jim,

Xiaoling Pu, one of our students, was using the NASD trace data. I know this data is hard to obtain, given that only few agents like WRDS, etc., are used by NASD. I will send Xiaoling an email, as well.

The Trade Reporting and Compliance Engine (TRACE) was introduced by the FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority), formerly the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD).
The TRACE eligible securities are U.S. dollar denominated debt securities. The data period starts from July 2002.
WARDS have the transaction data from TRACE, however, there is no detailed information, such as, debt maturity, coupon, etc., for individual bonds in TRACE. You have to look for them in other database.

Hi X,

Hope you are doing well. Not sure where you were placed. I am at UConn.

Yes I am very familiar as I am currently using as well. I have been able to get the basics for coupon, maturity, etc. for the components of the Bloomberg Trace indices on FINRA. I collected this for about 1,000 bonds. I'm in the process of refining subgrouping based on characterists such as industry, rating, and yield-to-mat. What I am wondering is if anyone has already identified subgrouping and would be willing to share ticker lists with me. Would be happy to be able to help each other. Especially with my friends at UMass!!
